Created for my Final Year Project at the University of Staffordshire (Using the Lancer framework from a previous module for the base mechanics).

For this project, I designed and developed a responsive UI that aims to be both functional and immersive. I focused on principles of user-centred design and ensured all the assets I created for this UI aligned with colour and visual hierarchy.  Throughout development, I followed an iterative design process, from wireframing to final polish. I conducted several user tests to ensured my designs were most effective for my proposed goal.

Visual Style & Assets:

My design process began with research into player expectations and industry standards, followed by the creation of multiple HUD wireframe concepts. I explored a range of layout options and ultimately selected the design that best aligned with user reading patterns and provided the most flexibility for animations. I also tested different HUD variations with users to compare clarity and preference, and the final choice supported natural left-to-right eye movement while keeping key information accessible during gameplay.

For the rest of the menu system, I chose a left-biased layout, drawing from the natural reading pattern in English. This approach helped create a consistent and intuitive user experience across all screens.

The visual style was heavily inspired by sci-fi and cyberpunk aesthetics. I applied principles of colour theory and maintained consistent colour relationships to create a cohesive and readable interface. Shape design also played a key role as the assets I made were created with a structured, futuristic look in mind, using angular shapes to reinforce the overall aesthetic and support the game's tone and theme.
